📖 Quranic Ayah
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says:
وَاِ ذْ اٰتَيْنَا مُوْسَى الْكِتٰبَ وَالْفُرْقَانَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُوْنَ
“And remember when We gave Musa the Book and the Furqan so that you may be guided.”
(QS. Al-Baqarah 2:53)
📚 (Shan-e-Nuzul (Reason for Revelation):
This verse was revealed to remind the Children of Israel of the great blessings they had received from Allah. He granted Prophet Musa (A.S.) the Book (Tawrah) and the Furqan, a divine criterion that distinguishes truth from falsehood, so that they could follow the right path.
It was a reminder to appreciate the guidance Allah had given them and not fall into disobedience or forgetfulness.
🕰️ (Cause of Revelation (Asbab an-Nuzul):
The verse addresses the disobedience and ingratitude shown by the Children of Israel.
They repeatedly turned away from Allah’s commands despite receiving clear guidance.
Therefore, Allah reminded them that He blessed them with a Prophet, a divine scripture, and a criterion of truth — but still they failed to value it.
(Historical Background):
Allah revealed the Tawrah to Prophet Musa (A.S.), a book containing laws, guidance, and divine principles.
“Furqan” refers to the divine criterion that separates truth from falsehood and guides the believers toward righteousness.
At that time, the Children of Israel had been freed from Pharaoh’s oppression, yet they continued to be ungrateful and repeatedly disobeyed Allah.
This verse recalls their history and encourages them to reflect upon it.
🌍 (Lessons and Impact on Modern Life):
(1) The importance of distinguishing truth from falsehood
In today’s world of misinformation, confusion, and false ideologies, this verse teaches us that:
👉 Allah’s guidance is the only reliable standard for knowing what is true and what is false.
(2)Appreciating Allah’s blessings
People often forget the blessings they receive.
This verse reminds us:
👉 Divine guidance is the greatest blessing, and ignoring it leads to misguidance.
(3)A life without guidance leads to chaos
Just as the Children of Israel needed the Tawrah and the Furqan, we today need the guidance of the Qur’an.
👉 Success comes only by following the path Allah has given.
(4) Learning from history
The mistakes of past nations teach us valuable lessons.
👉 Disobedience leads to downfall, while repentance and obedience lead to prosperity.
(Conclusion):
This verse highlights that Allah never leaves humanity without guidance.
He sends scriptures and prophets to show the straight path.
Those who value divine guidance achieve true success, and those who ignore it fall into misguidance.
